PTA Elections for 2012-2013 School Year

A Message from Melani Fulgham, Current Loma Vista PTA President:

Dear PTA Parents,

It has recently come to my attention from the newly appointed district parliamentarian, that Loma Vista PTA officers need to be re-elected/confirmed for their second year in office. We will hold these elections during the next PTA meeting on May 16. The following is a list of offices and the proposed office holders. If you see an empty job (Blue Bold) you would like to fill, or if you would like to contest a current office holder, please email me at mfulg@pacbell.net, and I will include you on the ballot for May 16.
Thank you,
Melani Fulgham

News from the Principal and STAR Testing

News from the Principal

Loma Vista has been named a California Distinguished School. This award is based on student performance on the Star testing last May. A group of teachers will be going to Los Angeles in May to accept this honor. The testing period is here again and we plan to continue our outstanding performance. Here are some ways you can help.

Taking Tests

Click here to download the STAR testing schedule (PDF)

All 2nd through 5th grade students at Loma Vista will be taking the state standardized tests from May 1-4 and May 8-10. It’s crucial that your children arrive on time (7:55) each day well-rested and well fed. Students that arrive late on those days will not be admitted to class until testing is over. We will not be able to interrupt class to remove any students so please refrain from making any appointments during this time.

Please join us Friday May 11 for our Family Picnic to celebrate our students for testing their best.

Tests are important because they help:

  • the teacher evaluate your child’s needs and progress
  • the student gauge their own level of mastery
  • the parent monitor your child’s progress
  • the school district and state evaluate curriculum

You can assist your child prepare for testing by doing the following:

  1. Discuss the importance of testing.
  2. Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep before a test, and make sure your child eats properly the day of a test.
  3. Maintain a pleasant home environment and avoid unnecessary conflicts.
  4. Ensure that your child is present during the testing (children perform better when taking tests in their groups rather than at a make-up time).
  5. Wish your child good luck before he or she leaves for school.
